Sports & Remedial Massage Therapy

Sports Massage is a type of deep tissue massage that stimulates blood and lymphatic circulation. It aims to prevent injury and enhance sports performance, and restore normal function post injury.

A variety of treatment techniques are used including: deep soft tissue massage, trigger point therapy, muscle energy techniques (MET), neuromuscular techniques (NMT), soft tissue release (STR), Strain-Counterstrain (SCS), fascial release techniques and stretching.

Remedial Exercises will be prescribed when treating musculoskeletal problems to strengthen, stretch, and mobilise muscles and joints.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy Massage is a gentle soft tissue massage, and is beneficial for almost all women. Appropriate knowledge of pregnancy and the anatomy of pregnancy are vitally important. Correct position during the massage is also important, (this will change throughout the pregnancy), for the well-being of mother and baby.

Acupuncture

Weston Medical Acupuncture is based on the modern understanding of anatomy, physiology and pathology.

Teresa trained under the supervision of Dr Anthony Campbell, who was consultant physician at The Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine for over 20 years.

Currently retired Dr Campbell still provides training to Primary Health Care Practitioners.

Acupuncture works via the nervous system and the principle application of acupuncture is for the relief of pain.

Research has shown that acupuncture works better for some kinds of pain than others,
Pain associated with tissue damage and musculoskeletal pain (good results).
Neurogenic pain, eg: trigeminal neuralgia (quite good results).
Chronic pain Syndromes (poor results)
Central pain eg: post stroke pain (very poor results)

Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology Taping can be used effectively in any sport or non-sport related setting.

Kinesiology Taping has been clinically shown to help with the natural response to inflammation, following injury or trauma to the body. It can help alleviate pain and encourages the facilitation of lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin.

Oedema Control Techniques can be used following acute swelling, or for more chronic swollen areas.

Posture Control Taping is used to enhance the effectiveness of your postural correction treatment, providing a lasting cutaneous sensory cue to corrective movement patterns.

Powertaping™, unique to Rocktape, is an exciting taping application with potential performance enhancing benefits. The tape is applied along the fascial lines (anatomy trains) or functional lines of the body to improve proprioceptive feedback and either control or prevent injuries.

Taping for Neurological Conditions, helps improve proprioceptive feedback, increasing  sensory stimuli perceived by the brain.
